If you don't want to paint your exterior wood but want to protect it from the elements, consider a garden furniture treatment instead. Any wood cracks, splits or gaps that have not been filled, can allow moisture ingress that undermines paint adhesion.

I really wish they would get there colours right, I chose Natural Oak didn't look dark on tin but it's the colour of dark chocolate. Looks like a decent natural stone colour on the label, but the paint itself is an entirely different colour. Having purchased some cuprinol garden shades, I decided to paint my lawn edging sleepers in cool marble, weather proof with a 6 year guarantee.
