That story in particular did a great job of being upsetting without depicting violence or frightening imagery; the simple petulant cruelty of the situation and subsequent suggestion of harm in one scene was more than enough to stay with me. The first, “Bio House,” feels shocking for shock’s sake and has a rather slap-dash kind of plot, while “Where the Sandman Lives” makes little sense. Born in Gifu Prefecture in 1963, he was inspired from a young age by his older sister's drawing and Kazuo Umezu's comics and thus took an interest in drawing horror comics himself.

As a fan, I enjoyed this book quite a bit while acknowledging it's weaknesses; it's not going to convince any non-fans. For the most part, these stories contain many elements of the horror genre: body horror, blood, guts, weird, psyche, dark magic, demons, dread, ominous, and a touch of obsession. I wish I'd written down ratings for each piece of the collection individually as I was reading through it, but this was one of those times where I was more in the mood to just zone out with the manga rather than take notes, and it wasn't good enough to want to re-read it for more thorough reviewing purposes (sorry!

Either that or you’ll hear about my attempts to open the gates of Hell just so I can get some peace and relaxation. However, once you get to the last five stories, you can see Ito really gaining experience and the stories improving in quality. Ito’s artwork is always bouncing from the ethereal beauty of ghosts and nature to the disgusting body horror and gore of an R-rated film. For example: A girl's hair rebels against being cut off and runs off with her head; Girls deliberately catch a disease that makes them beautiful but then murder each other; a woman treats her skin with lotion so she can take it off and look at her muscles, but the skin dissolves and she tries to steal her sister's skin, etc.

Junji Ito is (as always) the king of body horror graphic novels that are both terrifying, fascinating and completely ridiculous and this book is no exception. All of the rest of the artwork in this book is improved from here, and it’s not as if this artwork is in any way bad.

The images of the dream self doing this are visceral, imaginative, and downright amazing, making this a particularly creepy story. The story is not concerned with why she can do this, however, nor where she even came from (it is revealed faculty doesn’t even really know who she truly is). Biography: Junji Ito made his professional manga debut in 1987 and since then has gone on to be recognized as one of the greatest contemporary artists working in the horror genre. Some of the paranormal content did edge into more ridiculous territory, which Ito seems unable to help sometimes, but this was spread out enough in the collection that I did not mind it. Kris is a librarian for the Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries, because being a Power Ranger was not a ‘legitimate life choice.

A Father’s Love” still is a little rough in the art department at times, but it has a compelling stories and characters you really feel for (ooh, I shipped those two young kids! Here you'll find our company details, answers to frequently asked questions and different ways to get in touch with us.

I still enjoyed it just fine, but his line work was a lot more rough around the edges and his penchant for smaller details was absent in some cases.
